This winter transfer window is always a period of feverish speculation and possible major moves. Several high-profile footballers find themselves linked with moves away from their current clubs. We examine a selection of the top names who might be changing clubs in January.

A. Semenyo

Despite Ghana's inability to reach the AFCON, this has kept the player available, it appears an important transfer is close. The Bournemouth attacker possesses a contract featuring a sizeable buy-out clause active for a two-week period in early January. Recent reports suggest the Premier League champions are now the frontrunners for his services. Former interested parties like Tottenham and Chelsea reportedly have turned their attention to other options, leaving clubs such as Liverpool or Manchester United to attempt a last-minute bid.

M. Guéhi

The English centre-back has continued to impress for Palace this season a previous move to Anfield collapsing. As his contract due to run out in the summer, this represents the club's final opportunity to obtain a fee for their skipper. A host of elite clubs, such as City and several European giants including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, reportedly hold an interest. Yet, a winter exit remains unlikely, especially given the coach's reliance on the defender.

B. Johnson

The Wales forward has had starting opportunities limited at Tottenham this term. Despite finishing as the club's top scorer the previous campaign, Johnson has begun just a small number of league matches. It is understood the London club is willing to consider a transfer for the right valuation, thought to be in the region of forty million pounds. The Cherries are currently leading the chase, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford also showing an interest.

R. Neves

The Portugal playmaker might be set for a return to the English top flight following a spell in Saudi Arabia. Still only twenty-eight, while his agreement expiring in the summer of 2026, he represents a potential opportunity. Teams like Manchester United and Liverpool have been linked with the former Wolves man. Furthermore, there have been suggestions from Spanish media that he would be willing to take a pay cut for a switch to Real Madrid.

M. ter Stegen

This veteran Germany shot-stopper finds himself as third-choice at Barcelona under the coach Hansi Flick. Having fallen out of favour and had surgery, a January departure looks increasingly likely. Villa were initially mentioned as a possible suitor, but that option currently seems unlikely. Instead, interest from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are reportedly showing interest in the 33-year-old.

I. Toney

This proven England centre-forward has continued finding the net frequently in Saudi Arabia. A return to the Premier League could enhance his fading chances of making the England World Cup. But, arranging a deal poses significant hurdles. His current club are reluctant to part with him, and his alleged huge salary render any agreement difficult. Everton, Tottenham, and Manchester United are all linked as admirers.

C. Gallagher

The energetic English midfielder drew considerable attention in the off-season but stayed at Atlético. Manchester United have been heavily linked, and a move back to Crystal Palace, a club he excelled on a temporary deal, remains a option, although financial constraints could prove a problem.

H. Elliott

Although excelling and being named the best player award at the Under-21 European Championship in the summer, the talented player has found it tough for game time on loan at Villa. The manager has stated the temporary transfer will not be made permanent. Because of FIFA regulations regarding representing multiple teams in a season, a return to Liverpool before next season seems to be the only available solution.

Kenan Yildiz

This exciting Turkey forward is in fine form for the Italian giants this term. With his existing deal running down, many English sides – including Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are keeping tabs on the developments. The Turin club are desperate to secure the 20-year-old to a new long-term agreement but are in a race to retain one of the continent's most promising prospects.

Kees Smit

This highly-touted Dutch teenage midfielder has earned comparisons to Kevin De Bruyne for his playing style. After impressing at the Under-19 European Championship, he has broken into the AZ side. The teenager is widely tipped to make a major transfer in January. Newcastle United are believed to be frontrunners, but are facing stiff rivalry from Real Madrid for a deal priced at approximately twenty-two million pounds.
